No more dour anarchists. This time we’re thrust into the world of Italian families in Melbourne who have been rivals for generations. We talk about the influx of Italian immigrants to Australia, the increased tension between Phryne and Jack now that Concetta has entered the scene, and why it’s only fair that Phryne gets her Bond Girl.
Mentioned in this episode:
“The Mozzarella Murders,” a mystery written by Mary’s husband Erik Hanberg.

Loved it as usual. I also thought the Guido date was weird but I always thought she did it because she was feeling jealous and wanted to escape. However on the “why Guido” question, I bet Phryne is a walking pheromone and that some of these odd choices she makes are also walking pheromones. So when they meet the chemistry is there even if the guy is a dolt (Jurgos) or not that attractive like Guido.
Hi, Patricia! I’m glad you enjoyed the episode. It’s fun to imagine Phryne running into her pheromone-exuding male equivalents, though I never would have called Guido! I go more towards the jealousy argument—as well as the adrenaline burst from the attack—to explain the amorous liaison with Guido. Whatever the reason, he should consider himself lucky! 😉
